LGBTQ Therapy Denver

Are You Struggling to Feel Affirmed in Your Identity?

Do you identify as LGBTQIA+ and have a hard time feeling embraced and accepted for who you are?

Are you a family member, community member, or ally looking for guidance about how to be authentically and meaningfully supportive of your LGBTQIA+ loved one?

Given the heteronormative pressures of society, it’s hard enough for LGBTQIA+ folks to find acceptance and representation in our culture. But add familial expectations and our often intolerant surroundings to the mix, and you have the recipe for ongoing feelings of anxiety, rejection, and shame. For this community in particular, the road to feeling affirmed, embraced, and empowered can be a bumpy one, often including rifts in relationships, self-esteem, and mental well-being.

The more we struggle to feel accepted, the harder it is to become vulnerable. And without a safe space to explore, an authentic identity can feel farther and farther out of reach. Hiding away can create a sense of fracture in the self, leading to depression, disconnection, and a lack of healthy outlets. In fact, many in the LGBTQIA+ community develop issues related to substance abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm as a result of masking their true identities. Not to mention, rates of violence, harassment, and trauma are much higher among these individuals.

With our LGBTQ Therapy Denver services, we are invested in helping our clients live comfortably and authentically as themselves. Whether you are exploring your identity, navigating the process of coming out, or wondering how to meaningfully support your LGBTQIA+ loved one, counseling can foster a newfound sense of affirmation in your life.

LGBTQIA+ Experience Higher Rates of Discrimination and Mental Health Obstacles

You don’t have to look far to find anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiments in this country. The rights of queer, trans, and nonbinary individuals—youth in particular—are in jeopardy every day nationwide.

Dehumanizing and hateful rhetoric takes its toll. According to recent data from The Trevor Project, 41 percent of LGBTQIA+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, while over half of that population experiences barriers to affirming mental and physical healthcare. And only 38 percent of LGBTQIA+ youth report coming from an accepting, affirming home. [1]

Unfortunately, significant obstacles are put in the way to keep this community from achieving optimal health and well-being at every level. Between community mistreatment, legislative restrictions, and a lack of affirming healthcare, systemic injustice and trauma pervade the lives of LGBTQIA+ individuals who deserve the right of self-determination.

Our LGBTQ therapy Denver has therapists who are compassionate, culturally competent providers who create a validating, supportive, and inclusive space for our clients. In helping you process your lived experiences and explore your LGBTQIA+ identity, therapy can facilitate a new sense of healing and possibility in your life.

LGBTQ Therapy Denver Through Empowered Living Collective

The role of a therapist is to support you in becoming your most authentic, empowered self. Whether you’re using the LGBTQ therapy Denver space to cope with mental health concerns, understand your unique LGBTQIA+ identity, or navigate the coming out process, we will individualize therapy to your needs.

We do this by incorporating essential lifelong skills to enhance mental, emotional, and relational health. Alongside the ability to identify and express emotions, therapy teaches you healthy communication and boundary-setting, self-advocacy, and coping skills. And our strengths-based, solution-focused approach can help you live with intention and resilience.

You deserve a life where you are thriving and not just surviving. Our LGBTQIA+ therapists are here to uphold a safe, transformative counseling space where you can undergo the process of self-reflection and healing. With the skills and perspectives you gain through therapy, you can build the stepping stones toward a vibrant, flourishing self.

What to Expect

We welcome children, teens, adults, and allies of all gender and sexual identities to therapy. Furthermore, as a neuro-affirming practice, we offer LGBTQIA+ counseling to clients on the Autism Spectrum or who have been diagnosed with ADHD.

While parents and guardians are essential in the LGBTQ therapy Denver process for minors, we place each client at the center of therapy, supporting and coaching parents as needed. From there, the long-term goal of counseling—regardless of the client’s age—is to increase coping and build confidence.

Still Unsure If LGBTQ Therapy Denver Is Right For You?

I’ve had negative experiences with healthcare providers in the past—how will LGBTQ therapy Denver at Empowered Living Collective be different?

Our LGBTQIA+ affirming therapists center the counseling process around a sense of acceptance—from both yourself and others. We seek to validate experiences and promote self-advocacy. Working together, we will create space to explore hesitancy, rejection, shame, and uncertainty as you simultaneously understand and build the parts of your authentic identity.

I’m not ready to face trauma and unacceptance in my life.

LGBTQ therapy Denver is your healing journey, and we will never force you to discuss anything that you’re not comfortable with. Our role is to validate whatever it is that you’re experiencing while instilling a sense of resiliency. It is our hope that through uplifting your LGBTQIA+ identity in the counseling space, therapy will empower you to draw on your strengths and overcome challenges.

If my therapist doesn’t identify as LGBTQIA+, how will I know that therapy will be effective?

An effective therapist allows you to feel valued and celebrated despite your differences.

While we have therapists on staff who identify as LGBTQIA+, we understand that there are limits to fully identifying with and relating to your lived experiences. That said, we always promise to remain curious, compassionate, and respectful throughout the counseling process. Furthermore, we are devoted to ongoing education and training, especially as it relates to cultural competence, and we continually check in to assess unconscious bias.

Regardless of how we identify individually, our mission for our LGBTQ therapy Denver services is to advocate for, support, and represent the LGBTQIA+ community with the goal of embracing the fluidity of human sexuality and gender expression.
