ADHD Testing Denver
Are You Curious If Your Struggles Are Related to ADHD?
Do you have a hard time paying attention, staying organized, or completing tasks in a timely manner?
Are these challenges getting in the way of your work, relationships, and ability to succeed?
Have you ever suspected Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is behind your symptoms?
You may have started to wonder what exactly is going on—you can’t get things done as well or as quickly as you’d like, and the tasks that seem to be effortless for others require a lot of your energy. As a result, you’re probably experiencing increased stress, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy, especially as they relate to your daily responsibilities.
The inability to focus and recall information is probably affecting your relationships in addition to your work and overall quality of life. You may find it hard to concentrate when others are talking to you, or maybe you have to ask for the same information several times before understanding. It’s possible that your loved ones have commented on your forgetfulness, ultimately creating tension, conflict, or a lack of security in your relationships.
Fortunately, testing for ADHD can help you find the answers you’ve been looking for. Using our methods to test for ADHD in adults, we can help you understand your symptoms and create a treatment plan that honors your unique goals.
Are You The Parent Of A Child Who Struggles With ADHD-Related Symptoms?
Alongside adult-specific assessments, we’re available to work with children and teens who may be exhibiting ADHD symptoms. If you’re the parent of a child or teen who has a hard time initiating tasks or staying focused on schoolwork, you may wonder if ADHD is present. If so, you’re probably curious about how to get necessary accommodations to help them succeed.
Empowered Living Collective is committed to providing thorough ADHD evaluations to clients of all ages. By determining your specific struggles with focus, memory, and executive functioning, we can chart a path forward that works for you or your child.
ADHD Is Much More Common, Especially Among Adults, Than Previously Thought
Millions of children, teens, and adults alike are diagnosed with ADHD every year. Recent data show that about 13 percent of adolescents and teens (ages 12 to 17) meet the criteria for a diagnosis, while younger children (ages 6 to 11) have a slightly lower occurrence at 10 percent. [1]
Yet, contrary to how we’ve treated ADHD in the past, it is not a condition only limited to children and teens. In fact, despite affecting 8 million American adults every year, several studies suggest that less than one in five adults are aware of having ADHD. [2] For many, a diagnosis was overlooked because they performed well in school or did not match the “typical” ADHD demographic. (For instance, boys are more likely to be diagnosed than girls even though rates of occurrence are actually closer to equal among the genders.)
And while these individuals may not have struggled with hyperactivity, learning delays, or behavioral issues as children, they may have noticed ADHD-related challenges impacting their lives as adults. With their work and relationships struggling, they’re frustrated that they don’t have what they need to thrive.
Our practice offers the most informed, culturally responsive, and up-to-date ADHD assessments available. Looking at a wide range of factors that may be contributing to your frustration and discomfort—whether cognitive, social, emotional, or adaptive, cultural—we can determine what exactly is happening beneath the surface of your or your child’s symptoms.
What to Expect
Your testing psychologist will make sure you feel prepared for the process, and you will be asked to fill out questionnaires throughout the testing process. While clients usually don’t need to bring anything in particular to their ADHD evaluation, we may ask parents to bring along any pertinent documentation—including report cards, teacher feedback, and any previous accommodations or 504/Individualized Education Plans—when testing children and teens. Parents can also expect to participate in the interview and questionnaire process, but the testing itself will be done solely with the client.
Beyond the time spent filling out questionnaires and participating in interviews (anywhere from two to four hours), the ADHD testing process usually takes one to two days. Results are ready within two weeks of the evaluation, at which point you will receive our suggested accommodations, community resources, therapeutic services, work/academic guidance, and any necessary referrals. We also have therapists on staff who are available for continued ADHD-related counseling.
ADHD assessments offer more than just a diagnosis. Alongside knowing the reason behind your frustration and discomfort, you’ll understand which aspects of ADHD impact you the most. With this newfound insight, you can feel empowered to get what you need and develop strategies for overcoming ADHD-related hurdles.
Testing For ADHD Can Give You Tangible Next Steps to Support Your Life
ADHD testing through Empowered Living Collective honors your or your child’s unique experience. Our psychologists will work to understand your strengths and areas of concern to make the most accurate diagnosis possible. As we learn more about where symptoms of ADHD create setbacks in your life, we can take meaningful steps toward improving your relationships, performance, and overall mental health.
We offer two different types of ADHD testing options for children, teens, and adults. A full evaluation, based on interviews regarding academic, cognitive, and executive functioning skills, is available for those looking for extensive feedback and accommodations. Alternatively, a shortened evaluation process more heavily based on self-reporting/parental reporting and a short computer test is available to those with budgetary constraints. Both options are designed to help you better understand how your brain works and what you need to feel capable and confident in all areas of life.
Still Unsure Of How An ADHD Evaluation Can Benefit You?
Doesn’t everyone struggle with inattention, disorganization, and memory issues?
While it’s true that most children, teens, and adults will struggle with ADHD-related symptoms and behaviors at some point in their lives, those with ADHD have specific neurological differences than their neurotypical peers. Completing an assessment through a neuro-affirming practice can help you learn to embrace ADHD-related strengths and overcome ADHD-related barriers.
I’m pretty sure I already know I have ADHD—why do I need a formal assessment?
While self-diagnosis is meaningful, testing with a trained professional can offer you personalized information about how ADHD impacts you specifically. Through understanding where ADHD presents challenges in your life—whether cognitive, social, emotional, or in terms of executive functioning—you can develop individualized tools for managing symptoms and stress.
If diagnosed, will I/my child need to take medication?
We understand that there is a lot of stigma surrounding medication and recognize that much of this stigma is unfounded. ADHD medications have been shown to be safe, and while some individuals experience adverse symptoms on medication, these side effects are usually helped with changes in dosage. Moreover, if medication is prescribed, it can often be taken on an as-needed basis.
That said, medication is not always necessary. Our therapists can help you or your child develop beneficial strategies and skills for managing stress, overwhelm, and other challenges related to ADHD. No matter your goals, we are here to offer you an ADHD assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic process tailored to your unique needs.
If I seek out testing, will I receive a diagnosis?
Not everyone qualifies for an ADHD diagnosis, which is why it’s important to seek testing in the first place. Our evaluation methods are designed to be thorough so that you can understand what is going on and if something else beyond ADHD might be causing your symptoms. Our goal is to ultimately help you find the answers you need so that you can establish the best way forward.
At Empowered Living Collective, we make ADHD testing available to adults, children, and teens in search of answers and accommodations. For more information about our ADHD evaluations, or to get scheduled, contact us.
